Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, cold outside!

Went out to the Sheepfold this morning and the noses were cold! The wind was blowing! The sun was shining, perfect Winter day. The only thing missing was a little snow!

Max enjoyed chasing a Great Dane puppy which is unusual because he does not usually engage in play. Must have been the cold, bringing out the pup in Max.

Penny was frightened off temporarily by another dog, but came running back once we started playing stick.

Mazy did her usual schtick of finding things to roll in! Her rolling was short lived when she realized how cold and hard the frozen ground is. Penny went to investigate what Mazy had found, and quickly decided Mazy's new cologne was not to her liking!

Nisha does his own thing, always has, always will. He is an Elk Hound, and is comfortable exploring in the woods.

We must be hardy folk, for even the squirrels were in their nests, and Nishas had little to hunt.

We'll be heading out again in the late afternoon, but for now we are warm and comfy back at Daley Care.

Today at the Sheepfold Cross Fells Trail

The morning began with a bit of rain. There was a fog lifting off the reservoir as we approached, it was beautiful! We pooches all love mud so the troops didn't really notice or complain about the rain.

By mid morning the Sheepfold was packed with lots of our familiar weekend friends because so many humans only had to work a half day because they were preparing for the annual American ritual of giving thanks to Dog Almighty.

At one point during the day, Margaret was throwing a ball to a bunch of us who were out in the field running and competing to make the catch. The star of the day is Annie, who jumped over a weekenders dog and snatched the ball in an amazing interception! We as dogs could not believe Annie could be so competitive and athletic.

By 2pm Margaret called us to the car to take us home, we were wet and thirsty. We were all ready for a dry off, a warm up and a nice nap.

Fall excursion

Today we went to Lynn State Park with Fenway, Joey, Mazy and Penny. We noticed how quiet it was, possibly due to the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. Cest La Vie, we had a wonderful time in spite of the clouds and the smaller number of friends we usually see there.

One activity the dogs wanted to try was swimming. You should have seen the looks on their faces when the water got up to their bellies. Yikes, the water is cold, they seemed to be saying. The leaves made a nice place to roll in and dry off.

From the pond we went on a nice walk, the trails there are beautiful.

Beautiful Fall day

Today, I took the dogs on a beach walk. It was a lovely day. We took along a new client, John, who wanted to see for himself how Daley Care Outward Bound runs. We walked five and a half miles and headed home just before the rain. Within 10 minutes of leaving the parking lot the dogs were sound asleep.

Tommorow is Friday, and we don't blog Friday thru Sunday.

Yesterday my four legged friends and I headed out about 9 AM and had a great run through the orange trail and all of its streams. The orange trail offered the most shade on a hot day. I took a few photos of flowers and plants and it looks like an early fall is ahead!

Today, Izzy, Lucy, Fenway, Otis, and Lilly went with me on a much cooler day. There was some commotion in the forest today - a bunch of trucks doing something or other - but everybody still had a fun time swimming and chasing one another.

We've got some great news to report! Mazy (a Tibetan terrier) has a new sister named Penny! She is also a Tibetan and is only 4 lbs so the troops and I went to meet her after our long day. There aren't any photos - she still has tiny puppy eyes, and I didn't want to hurt them with the flash. Soon, though, I'll have some :)

In the meantime, I've got 5 very sleepy, very furry friends on my hands. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please invite others to read and join us. We're always looking for new playmates!

Well, the cool fall air is starting to descend upon us! It was chilly early in the morning today and yesterday, but both days turned gorgeous pretty quickly. We had a good crowd both days: Isabelle, Lady, Fenway, Mazie, and Lily. Isabelle and Lady are taking advantage of the last days of summer and swimming all day (although they probably won't have any objection to swimming when I think it's freezing cold out, either). Mazie was her usual calm self, and enjoyed sniffing and exploring along the water's edge. Fenway and Lily chased each other around in circles most of the day. In the end, of course, everyone was exhausted.

Hello everyone! We went on hiatus for a little while, but we're back now. A small change: from now on, we're going to be updating twice a week. Don't worry, I'll still let you know what happened on those other days, it's just that the posts will cover two days instead of one. Now, on to the good stuff :)

Yesterday was a fun day, with one small (mis)adventure. Lucy, Lady, Otis, Mazie, Dover, and I went for a walk in the woods. It was a gorgeous day, and everybody had a great time. Unfortunately, when we were on the Orange Trail and turned on to Dike's Road, Lucy stumbled on to a big beehive. We managed to escape unharmed, but I just wanted to warn everybody to watch out.

Today, Isabelle, Dover, Lily, and Mazie went down to the water. We left fairly early, hoping to avoid the afternoon thunderstorms the forecasters were predicting. We had lots of fun in the morning, although Isabelle surely missed Lady, her usual swimming buddy. A clap of thunder scared the dogs around 1, so we headed back to the house, only getting caught in the downpour for a few minutes :) Now, everybody's resting up and waiting for the rain to stop so we can go out again!

Another beautiful summer day today! Fenway, Kuusama, Lucy and Nisha and I trekked down to the pond early this morning. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera, so there won't be any pictures today, but we'll have some up soon. We stumbled upon another small group of dogs, so the four of them got to play with some strangers. Fenway got picked on a little bit, thanks to his small size, but he managed to defend himself. And it still looked like he was having fun. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Bruce wasn't here to play today, but we still had a solid crowd with Kuusama, Lucy, Nisha, Rufus and Stella. The game changed today from run-around-in-circles-for-hours to find-the-biggest-stick-you-can. Of course, whenever somebody found a bigger stick, everybody else immediately attempted to steal it, which led to some pretty entertaining pictures. And the weather was gorgeous today. Starting to feel a bit like fall, though!

Another great group today! Cubby, Bailey and Zoey left, but in came Bruce, Rufus and Stella. And those three were really the life of the party. Kuusama, Nisha and Lucy were still there, of course. But the day consisted mostly of the three newcomers sprinting in circles while everyone else gave chase. They're all QUITE exhausted right now. I even got a good video of them digging at one point :)

Busy Monday! We had another huge pack today: Misha, Zoey, Cubby, Bailey, Lucy and Kuusama. Combined, probably a solid 400 collective pounds of dog. We had a lot of fun down at the water. Kuusama loves to swim, as does Zoey. One of the Chows does too, although I'm not sure which one it is. Unfortunately, our great big group, which let us have a ton of fun, also meant it was a little too crazy to take any pictures. Surprisingly, a group of six dogs doesn't like to all sit still at once and look at the camera. But trust me, we all had fun!

It was a beautiful summer day today, and we had a huge group to take advantage of it. We were (take a deep breath): two Lucys, two Fenways, Isabelle, Jasper, Bailey, Cubby, and Zoey. Whew. We went down to the park and walked around down along the water. Fenway posed for the camera on a rock, and then sat proudly next to a root he and the OTHER Fenway had done their best to rip out of the ground. I also got a great picture of the rest of them swimming. And now, of course, everybody's exhausted!

With the forecasters calling for afternoon thunderstorms, I went out early with Lucy, the two Fenways, and Jasper, hoping to remain relatively dry. The morning was very nice, sunny but cooler than yesterday, and the dogs had a lot of fun. Lucy and Fenway the Pug continued to torment one another, and the other Fenway even joined in on the fun a bit. Jasper, our elder statesman, splashed around in the water and did some digging. When we heard the first peal of thunder, though, we decided it was probably a good idea to head home for a few. Now we're waiting out the showers, and I'm sure we'll be back out soon!

We're back! We were on blogging vacation last week (don't worry, the dogs were still well taken care of!), but now we're back. Today, I went out with Fenway the Pug, Lucy, Lady and Jasper, who we're taking care of while another day care is on vacation. Everybody was well-behaved, as usual. Lucy and Fenway spent most of the day playing tug-of-war with one another, Lady played fetch, and Jasper explored. Glad to be back!

Thankfully, the rain held off this morning and afternoon (unlike yesterday) so we were all able to have some fun down by the lake. We were mising Lucy, who needed a day of rest, but Lady came today to take her spot. We also had Fenway, Isabelle, and Otis. Unfortunately, it was Otis' last day. Everyone will be really sad to see him go, especially Izzy. The two of them raced for sticks in the water, and then whoever got it would have to win a game of tug-of-war with the other before he/she could successfully bring it back to me :)

This morning all of the dogs were VERY well behaved for an interview. Trace and Donna came by to check the place out, and everybody greeted them warmly. Trace is going to be here visiting us in just a couple weeks!

The majority of the day today was spent with Isabelle and Otis (clearly excited about the upcoming Olympic games) competing in their own version. They'd race to get the stick, and then one of them would try to get it back to shore without leeting the other one steal it. Lucy did her part as a judge, watching alertly from the shore.

Another beautiful summer day in New England! It was Lucy, Lady, and Kuusama today - Shana came along for a while as well, but didn't want to stay out the whole time - and we went down to our favorite lakeside spot. Lucy found a new best friend, Sunny, and the two of them played together for a long time. Kuusama joined in as well, and eventually Sunny's owner and I had to go our separate ways to get the dogs to split up :)

A very hazy day out there. Lucy, Fenway, Kuusama and I all headed down to the water after saying good-bye to Stella and Rufus. Kuus absolutely loves the water and spent most of the morning swimming in circles. Lucy found some sort of water rodent that barked at her for a few minutes before disappearing into the lake. I think everybody had the most fun, though, when another group of four or five dogs ran out to meet them. Everybody played nice with each other and swam for a good half-hour. Fun times!

Basically, today consisted of Rufus chasing Stella and Lucy chasing Rufus - the entire time. The three of them would WHIZ by in one direction, disappear off into the distance, and then about fifteen seconds later whiz by in the other direction. It was very entertaining for me, and undoubtedly exhausting for them. I got a good video of it (although it's tough to catch them when they're on the move!). Wonderful weather again today!

Another beautiful day! There were a good number of us today - me, Lucy, Otis, Max, Fenway, and Obi - and we all had a great time down by the water! It was pretty hot, so everybody went swimming. Otis might actually pose a challenge to Isabelle as the best swimmer among us. I'm pretty sure he'd be thrilled to swim in circles all day. Lucy and Max chased each other around all day, and Obi and Fenway, both being miniature-sized dogs, quickly became friends :)

Wet weekend

A VERY rainy end of last week has turned into a beautiful day today! We went out for a little bit on Thursday, but when it started thundering, we all decided it was probably safer to play inside. Which made everyone sad.

But a few chew toys thrown around the living room solved that :)

But like I said, today's a gorgeous day. Max, Lucy, and Lady all had fun swimming and fetching and doing their thing. Let's hope it stays nice!

Avoiding the rain

Phew! We made it into the house with about two minutes to spare before it started pouring. Not that Lady and Lucy would've minded, since they spent most of their time swimming anyway, but still. Just the three of us today - quite a change from the big crowds we've had lately! Hopefully we'll have some more to play with tomorrow :)

Today our favorite four-legged friends (Lucy, Fenway, and Pinky/Pompei) were joined by our favorite three-and-a-half-legged friend, Joey! Trying to avoid the rain the forecasters were predicting, we headed down to the lake early. Joey and Lucy wrestled all day, and even with his slight handicap, Joey was a good match for her. Pompei even started to come out of her shell a little bit, getting very excited (strangely) over a rock, which I got a little video of. Unfortunately, the camera, in its infinite wisdom, apparently decided to delete it...

Making friends

Today, Lucy, Lady, Lily, Dover and I were all hanging out down by the water's edge when two kids and their dad came down to swim. The swimming was delayed when the boys instantly became best friends with all of the dogs. They were impressed with each in turn: Lucy's tug of war skills, Lady's swimming, Lily's jumping, and Dover's digging. Hopefully we'll see them again soon!

Another exciting day down by the water. We played fetch for a long time - I got a good picture of Lily returning triumphantly with the stick while Ruby and Lucy plot to steal it away. Ruby also engaged in a war with a mound of ants for a little while, alternatively batting at them with her paw and running away barking. And now, they're all dead asleep at my feet :)

It's supposed to get pretty hot and humid over the next couple of days, so I really appreciate the beautiful day we had. I took Lady, Lucy, Lily, Theodore, and Isabelle down to the water again and everyone went swimming. Of course, they all love to jump in the mud right before we leave, so I'll have to give them a quick bath again, but that's okay. They just love to get dirty!

I stand corrected! TODAY, we had a crowd, with a trip of six! I have even more staying here, but I had Doug take some out while i went with Fenway the Pug, Fenway the Yorkie, Theodore, Lucy, Isabelle, and Ruby. We were quite a sight :) I got stopped by three or four people who all asked incredulously if all the dogs were mine. But everyone got along quite well. There was, of course, a lot of wrestling, especially between Theodore and Isabelle, and now everyone is exhausted and napping. Unfortunately, in my excitement to take all these guys out on such a beautiful day, I forgot the camera. But we'll have more pictures tomorrow, I promise!

Big crowd today! Fenway the Pug (as opposed to Fenway the Yorkie), Lady, Lucy, Theodore, and Lily were all here and all ready to play. They did lots of swimming, as usual, and Fenway and Lucy really had a fun time playing together. They were exhausted by about one, and subsequently napped for a half hour at my feet.

A day after getting Ruby to play with, today we got Theodore! Shy, however, would not be an adjective I would EVER use to describe him. He and Lucy spent most of the day chasing each other around and wrestling in the water. Fenway joined in occassionally, but his small size left him with a distinct disadvantage in the matches, so he preferred to sniff around on his own. It sure is a beautiful day outside!

Well, it looks like our wishes were heard. Today, we got to play with Rhubard, AKA Ruby. It was another hot day, but tomorrow is thankfully supposed to be a little cooler. We wandered down to a nice lake where the dogs spent the morning relaxing and swimming with their new friend. Ruby was a little shy at first, but quickly warmed up to Lucy and Lady. And now they've got a new playmate!

When it's as hot as it's been for the last couple days, nobody really likes to move all that much, dogs included. We went somewhere nice and shady with lots of water again. Lucy and Fenway had a solid routine of nap, swim, chase each other, and repeat, down pat. It was just those two today - I guess everybody else is on vacation, but those two sure wouldn't mind having some more friends to play with!

Pretty sticky out today, so we headed out to some shady trails. We played with a bunch of other dogs, but I'm pretty sure everyone was having the most fun in the water. A lot cooler playing there! See for yourself :)

Thunderstorms

Almost got caught in a bad thunderstorm today, but thankfully made it back to the house before the hail and the lightning started. Poor Max was terrified, and everybody else was scared too. I did get good videos of Bella doing her best giraffe impression and of Lady and Isabelle swimming way out for a stick. Those two will swim anywhere :)

Our very first video! It was a hot day today, and as you can see, even Fenway decided he needed to take a swim to cool off. The batteries died before I was able to film anybody else, but I still managed to get some good pictures of everyone else.

A little cloudy with a rumor of thunderstorms as we left this morning, but there's ALWAYS a chance of thunderstorms in the summer. We got to the lake and Starter and Lady got a chance to play around in the water, and we played some fetch. After about a half-hour, it started drizzling. No problem, I figured, it'll probably pass soon. About ten minutes after that, it started raining a little harder. I was considering going inside for a little while, when I heard a rumble of thunder. Needless to say, none of the three of us liked that, so we booked it back to my home, where we're waiting the rain out now. And unfortunately, I wasn't going to test how much water the camera could take, so pictures will be up tomorrow.

Lucy's on vacation this week, so we sure could use some more visitors to Daley Care! If you're going on vacation anytime soon or just looking to do something nice for your dog, think about stopping by and checking us out :) We'd love to have you!

Sorry for the late update, but we've had quite a busy day over here. After a trip down to the park in Andover, we stopped and picked up a camera! Which means, my dear readers, that on Monday we'll have some pictures to show you. Finally!

Rock jumping

Well, the unquestioned star of today's show was none other than our very own Isabelle. As we were walking by a rock that juts out into the lake, Lucy, Lady, and Isabelle ran over and befriended a group of kids who were jumping off the rock (don't worry, it wasn't very high). The kids liked the dogs, and the dogs liked the kids, so we were hanging around while they were jumping and swimming. And then. all of a sudden, Isabelle decided SHE wanted in on the action, and jumped in right after them. Everybody got a big kick out of it, and both the kid and Isabelle paddled around and climbed back on to the rock, at which point someone else jumped in and Isabelle followed HIM. This went on for another half-hour, at which point I think Isabelle decided she was too tired to do any more jumping. Lucy and Lady opted for the more casual swims, but I know everybody had fun!

Exhausting day of exploration

As I write this, I'm surrounded by four sleeping dogs, who've been motionless for about the last twenty minutes. Clearly, we had a good day of exploring. The gang today was Lucy, Isabelle, Lily, and Fenway. We ran into a few friendly strangers that they played with. We also ran into something on the ground that smelled god-awful, but that everybody (except me) wanted to roll in. Thankfully, I got us away in time before anybody got permanently gunked up. As usual, we also did some swimming and fetching. Most importantly, we got outside in some BEAUTIFUL weather, avoiding the thunderstorms that are supposed to come later this afternoon. It was Saturday, in case you were wondering.

Weather's a little threatening today, but Lady, Lucy and I got out early. It was drizzling a little bit at first, but no thunderstorms, and then the rain stopped. We all went down to the lake and played fetch for a long time. Lucy's favorite technique is to let Lady chase the stick down, and then just wait until Lady gets back to rip it out of her mouth and tear it to pieces. Sure, kind of a lazy way to play fetch, but hey, it works for her!

I know we've been slacking on the pictures and promised videos. but we're attempting to sort out some technical issues. They'll be here soon!

Paws 4 A Cure

I'm writing today in order to let you guys know about "Paws 4 A Cure," an organization which helps provide financial assistance to pay for canine cancer treatments and medicines when the owners cannot. They're having an event on Saturday, July 19th at 9:00 AM, at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. It's really a great cause and I'm sure it will be a ton of fun. As far as our trip went, it was another great day. Beautiful weather, and today we were joined by Stella, Rufus, and Ogie. Lucy had a great time bothering them until they would finally chase her, and then they'd all run around in circles for a while. Otherwise, they spent most of their time playing four-way tug-of-war with branches, until the branch just snapped apart :)

A beautiful day

If this is what we had to endure all the heat for, I guess I can only say it was well worth it! It's simply beautiful out today, warm in the sun with a light breeze, and nice and cool in the shade. The dogs definitely enjoyed the break from the heat as well, and we played fetch for a long time around the ponds. Neither Lady nor Lucy has mastered the concept of actually fetching though; they'll chase the sticks and pick them up, but then run away from me if I try and get the stick back from them. Maybe they'll learn soon :)

Today there were five of us - Lucy, Lily, Fenway, Joey, and Junie. We went down to a nice forest off of 95, with lots of shade and a nice pond for the dogs to swim in. They definitely took advantage, as even Fenway, who doesn't generally like the water, jumped right in to cool down. The rest of the time was alternately spent chasing each other around and then going for a swim. Despite her small size, Lily had a great time chasing after and bothering each other dog in turn.

Stay tuned: I think we're going to be adding some short videos of our trips soon, in case my words haven't been able to properly convey what goes on during our adventures :)

On Saturday, I went to the Medford Puppy Meet-up group with Cashew, Raisin, and Fenway, and it was great! Obviously those three aren't puppies, but all nice dogs are welcome to come and play :) It would be wonderful if we could get more people to come, and it's a fabulous opportunity to have fun with other dog owners and their pups. And whew, pretty warm out today! We took a walk down to the woods, and the shade was nice. Lucy couldn't help but flop down and stretch out for a little nap in every single one. Lady, of course, simply sprinted toward any body of water she saw for a quick swim. I was tempted to join her. We all hope it cools down soon!

Her true pedigree is unknown, although it is generally accepted that she was part husky or other Nordic breed, and possibly part terrier.

Thanks to wikipedia for those interesting tidbits :) Back home, it finally stopped raining and became a nice, if rather cool, day. We went down to Lynn to do some hiking in the forest with Rufus, Stella, and company. Everyone had fun romping in the slightly-muddied forest, and Rufus delighted in showing off to Stella how much further he could wade into the lake than she. Looks like a dog can torment his little sister just as much as any human can!

Tomorrow, unfortunately, we will not be blogging, but rest assured there will be plenty of exploring and sniffing and barking nonetheless. We'll be right back here on Monday. Enjoy the weekend!

Rain, rain, go away

Well, it's a little wet today, but that doesn't stop us! With a raincoat and an umbrella, we headed down to the beautiful hiking trails in and around Andover. To quote The Boston Dog Lover's Companion, "this terrific forest offers enough sniffs and smells to staisfy the pickiest of pooches."

Okay, so this picture shows a little more blue sky than we saw today, but hey, neither I nor the dogs mind a little rain. Lady obviously thought it wasn't quite wet enough, and, as usual, jumped into the lake the first chance she got.

In the meantime, it's stopped raining, so we're going to go explore a little more!

What better time to start a blog than on a beautiful June day after a nice walk in the park? Today, Lucy, Annie, Rosie, Isabelle, Lika and I went down to the Fells. We saw a lot of other dogs and animals, as usual. Lucy was particularly bent on either befriending or eating a crow (I'm not sure which) at one point, but it escaped. The four younger pups (excluding Laika, for those of you keeping track at home), went for a swim to cool off on our way home, and now everyone is resting comfortably in the air-conditioning before it's time to go home.
